Bihar Government to Provide Affordable Housing for Female Employees
New Policy Ensures Safe Housing for Female State Employees
The Bihar government has announced a significant move to address the housing and security needs of its female employees. Following a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a new policy mandates affordable housing options for women staff across the state. This initiative, spearheaded by the General Administration Department, will initially be implemented in divisional and district headquarters.
The government will issue Expression of Interest (EOI) calls, inviting landlords to submit proposals. District Magistrates, Police Superintendents, and representatives from local bodies will form a committee to assess and approve suitable properties, ensuring they meet safety standards – including water, sanitation, and electricity.
Eligible women employees will have the choice between receiving a rental allowance (HRA) or the provided housing. The education sector, with approximately 300,000 female teachers, is the largest employer, followed by the police and health departments, which also employ a significant number of women – many of whom have relocated to Bihar from other states. This policy is expected to alleviate concerns regarding safety and accessibility.
