Bihar Government Announces Housing Scheme for Female Employees
New Housing Initiative for Female Government Employees in Bihar
The Bihar government, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has taken a significant step to address the housing needs and safety concerns of female government employees. A new policy, approved during a recent cabinet meeting, guarantees accommodation near workplaces for all female state government staff.
This initiative, spearheaded by the General Administration Department, will initially be rolled out across divisional and district headquarters. The government will issue Expressions of Interest (EOI) to property owners, who can apply to provide housing. Divisional Superintendents (SDOs) will then determine rental rates based on government guidelines.
A committee comprising District Magistrates, Police Superintendents, local body representatives, and building department officials will inspect the proposed accommodations to ensure they are secure and equipped with essential amenities like water, sanitation, and electricity. Eligible female employees will be allocated these homes.
The government will enter into lease agreements with property owners and will cover the rental costs. Employees can choose between receiving a House Rent Allowance (HRA) or this housing benefit. This initiative impacts sectors including education, healthcare and the police force.
