Private Hospitals in Jharkhand Struggle with Payment Delays – MMJYA Crisis

Ranchi, Jharkhand – Private hospitals in Jharkhand are facing a significant challenge due to payment delays under the मुख्यमंत्री जन आरोग्य योजना (MMJYA), also known as the आयुष्मान भारत योजना. According to the IMA (Hospital Board of India), Jharkhand, Secretary Dr. Shambhu Singh, speaking at a press conference held at IMA सभागार, Ranchi, stated that the scheme, intended to benefit the poor and needy, has become a ‘problem’ for private hospitals over the past 10 months. The core issue is the prolonged delay in payments to hospitals. Approximately 750 private hospitals in Jharkhand haven’t received payments since the beginning of February. A staggering 212 hospitals are facing payment issues for the past 10 months alone, causing operational difficulties. The scheme now covers approximately 88% of Jharkhand’s population, but the lack of payment is creating a serious crisis. In Hazaribagh, 20 small hospitals have already closed, and similar situations are emerging in Palamu and Giridih. This impacts not only doctors and staff but also patients seeking care.
