Indians Boycott Turkey & Azerbaijan Over Pakistan Support

Following India’s Operation Sindoor response to the Pahalgam terror attack, a huge wave of cancellations is hitting bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Travel platforms like MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip are reporting a massive drop in bookings – a 60% decrease for Azerbaijan and a 250% surge in cancellations. Companies are strongly advising against non-essential travel to these destinations, citing the countries’ public support for Pakistan. EaseMyTrip’s Nishant Pitti specifically urged citizens to boycott, highlighting concerns about broader endorsements of foreign products. This boycott could significantly impact Turkey’s economy, which relies heavily on Indian tourism – approximately $350-400 million annually. In 2024 alone, 243,589 Indian tourists visited Azerbaijan, and Turkey welcomed 330,000 visitors, a significant increase from 2014.
