Tragic Building Collapse in Sadar Bazaar Claims Life
Heartbreaking Incident in Sadar Bazaar
A 44-year-old man, Manoj Sharma, lost his life Friday morning after a three-story commercial building collapsed in the Mithai Pul area of Sadar Bazaar, Delhi. Sharma, an employee of a shop within the building, was trapped under the rubble and, despite efforts by the fire brigade, was pronounced dead at Hindu Rao Hospital.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to Sharma’s family. The collapse occurred near ongoing metro tunnelling work for the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg corridor. DMRC stated that the buildings were identified as unsafe and evacuated prior to tunneling, with an evacuation notice issued on June 12th.
Debris removal operations are underway with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Police. A truck parked nearby sustained significant damage, but no further injuries or fatalities have been reported. Police have initiated an investigation under Sections 106(1) and 290 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
