Extended Enrollment Period for Unified Pension Scheme

The central government has extended the deadline to choose options for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to September 30, 2025. This decision follows requests from stakeholders. The scheme applies to central government employees enrolled in the National Pension System (NPS) who select the UPS option. The scheme was initially slated for completion by June 30, 2025. This extension applies to eligible current employees, former retirees, and the widowed spouses of deceased former retirees. This change was prompted by a letter from CPI(M) MP John Britas to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting clarification on the scheme's ambiguities.
