Students Protest College Closure in Jharkhand
Local Students Raise Concerns Over College Closures
A group of students and concerned parents in Jharkhand staged a protest march, known as a ‘justice march,’ on Tuesday. The protest involved students and parents from Tata College, Women’s College, Commerce College, and Jawaharlal Nehru College in Chhakarbela and surrounding areas. Participants delivered a letter of demand to the Chief Minister and Governor, requesting the continuation of intermediate-level studies and outlining various suggestions. Student leader Pipun Barik emphasized the difficulties faced by students from remote areas if intermediate courses were discontinued, potentially impacting thousands of students. Simultaneously, around 80 teachers and non-teaching staff have been protesting outside the Raj Bhavan for 80 days with no resolution.
Speakers at the protest urged the Governor and government to take immediate action to address the situation. Students and teachers threatened further state-level protests and potential broader shutdowns if their concerns are not adequately addressed. The event drew a large crowd of students and support from local leaders including development tamsoy, preetam bankira, anuj purti, and vir singh balmuchu. The demonstration highlighted the students’ dissatisfaction with the new education policy and the potential consequences for their future.
